A few notes on our latest visit
« on: June 19, 2007, 08:32:18 PM »

Hi there.

Back in  Western Australia after 18 days in paradise and what a shock to the system. Two nights home and back into winter. 4 degrees overnight... 16 today... 18 yesterday.

It was great to be back on the island catching up with friends and others.

A lot more building has taken place along Cenang or in some cases additions and renovations.  A lot more shop lots have been built since the previous visit in January.

Costs seem to have risen slightly although the value is still there. Traffic seems to be a bit busier and some crazy driving.

As usual eating out was great. Orkid Ria once again tops for us.  Thanks Mr Loh...Hin... Ping... Noni and the rest of the gang.

The pizzas at L'Osteria again were unbeatable. The Malaysian restaurant  Kantan at Pentai Tenang was a great find.  The   R50 meal for two was a bargain. With the addition of one other selection from the ample menu it actually fed 3 hungry eaters.

A good cheap meal was had at the Nasi Kampor in front of the Red Tomato. R21 for 4.

Our second favourite now seems to be Palace de India in front of the the Malibest Resort. Don't be put off by the sign at the front saying ....western...italian...chinese.....arabic food as we have been in the past. Their Indian menu is tops and so is the service.

Beach Garden was again our perfect home away from home.

If youve got  transport the  supermarket  Son Huat ( I think thats the spelling)  at Padang Matsirat has just about everthing one needs with many well known brands and means you can travel lighter.

We thought about using the newish airline Fire fly to  go to Penang overnight but didnt get a chance. Hopefully we'll do it next time.

Beach cleaning operations appear to be working with only some minor rubbish on the beaches for this time of the year.

Thats my lot for now. Any question feel free to ask  and hopefully I can answer.

Langkawi you're wonderful.

some corrections to post by Wheels...

1. first of all, it's either RM or MYR when referring to the Malaysian Ringgit and not just R! after all, nobody with any sense would say, D, when referring to the Australian Dollar, right? that would be AUD!

2. there is no such place called Pentai Tenang although there are places called Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah... for the uninitiated, pantai is beach!

3. there are some spelling mistakes regarding some businesses... but that would be nitpicking!

Thanks Bob T.

Appreciate the response.

Yes we've already booked for January and can't wait to get back.

Hi,

Sounds like you had a great time. Can I enquire as to what rate you paid for the Beach Garden per night.

Thank you.

Hi Vedzam.

Yes we did have a wonderful time.... as always.

I can't tell you exactly how much we paid per night for the room because as you may realize as regular guests  at B.G. for several years now our rate may or maynot reflect the published rate.

However I've copied a rate chart from a web site promoting the resort and others and have added it below.

Bear in mind with only 12 rooms you may need to be sligtly flexible with your dates as many regulars book six or even 12 months in advance.

The location is great being beachfront and close to the action.

The room rates are inclusive breakfast, which offers a choice of not less then 7 satisfying menu's, served until 1 pm.

Checkout time is 12 noon.

I hope this goes someway towards answering your question.

Cheers

Wheels,

Thank you for the very informative reply to my question. May try to book for my next trip to Langkawi, seems quite a popular resort so will remember to book way in advance. I have been there before for lunch when staying at another resort, I did take a fancy to it because of the size of the place. Were the rooms ok, they looked quite small.

Hi Vedzam.

There's no great problem with the size of the rooms. Don't forget you're really only sleeping in them.  On the  odd occasion when the weathers  been far too wet to be outside they've  been  liveable.
