Dear all, We are planning a holiday to Langkawi in January or February 2008. The Pelangi Beach Resort looks very nice. I hope someone can tell me more about this hotel. We prefer a nice hotel close to shops and restaurants. Where can we find nice shops/shopping malls in Langkawi? We went to Penang, Batu Ferringhi and liked the surroundings a lot (market, shops, bars, restaurants). We went in a quiet period so there were not too many people at that time. Can we expect the same in Langkawi?
What about the Pelangi Beach hotel. Can someone please tell me more about this resort?
Thanking you in advance for all your answers.
Kind regards Nancy

Don,t know why no one has responded to you before now.I have never stopped there but this Hotel has got a good reputation,is very popular and is in a good location with plenty of restaurants/ shops within the vicinity - although if you want shopping malls the only real ones are in Kuah town.I would say that the Pelanghi beach is as good as you could possibly get within that price bracket. regards Bob T

I've never stayed there but have walked around it and it is lovely. Family orientated... Pool is big...nice beach too..you can watch nice sunsets.!shops are only less than five minutes walk away..cheap great restaurants. If I am not mistaken they have the rice paddy muzium just opposite there....but got to try the breakfast bar along the same road...fast cheap and good. kuah town is ideal if you want more shopping...the nearest good hotel there is the sheraton langkawi beach resort..abit posh... beautiful view of the surrounding islands.. breakfast buffet is superb. The road leading to it passes yachts and ferry and the infamous eagle statue...and park! ;D My husband proposed to me at the beach in there!!! ;) Langkawi is magical...

Hi Nancy I am now able to post thanks to Bob T and Vennie's assistance, so for the benefit of others, thought I would place a copy of my earlier email to you regarding the PBR. Our family have stayed at the Pelangi on many occasions. We first visited Langkawi in 1993 and selected the Pelangi following some web research on the island's resorts. We live in England and enjoyed holidays in earlier years in Thailand - Ko Samui in particular. However, with young children in tow we were concerned about the growth of the trade that is very overt in places like Chaweng and Hua Hin and decided to try Ma;aysia and Langkawi and we were delighted with our experiences. Pelangi is a beautiful, friendly and totally relaxing resort for all types. I recommend you check their website http://www.pelangibeachresort.com/meritus_accommodation.htm and also read the reviews on the TripAdvisor site: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g298283-d301005-Reviews-Pelangi_Beach_Resort_Langkawi-Langkawi_Kedah.html We last visited this February - just before Chinese New Year; the weather was perfect throughout and the occupancy level was about 60% - the week after we departed, the Hotel was fully booked for the Holiday. There are a number of excellent food outlets within the resort but we prefer to stroll down the Cenang beach and eat at many of the local restaurants - The Beach Garden is a particular favourite. There are shops and parades that line the road behind the beach and at the far end there is a duty-free mall adjacent to Underwater World. The Island's capital - Kuah Town - is a 25 minute drive from Pelangi and has a number of Malls as well as the town stores. Being a duty-free island, tobacco and alcohol are very cheap although electrical items don't seem to any less expensive than in the UK. The hotel provide traditional style wood accommodations that have been very recently updated facing either the pool, garden or sea - prices vary depending on which aspect you prefer. Suites are also available. I hope this information helps you to decide and if you have any more queries let me know. Kind regards SteveC :)
