Hi - welcome to the forum!
Pantai Cenang and neighbouring Pantai Tengah (Pantai meaning beach) located 10 minutes from the aiport, have a variety of accommodation on offer - from simple beach huts to 4/5 star resorts. The area also benefits from a wide variety of excellent local restaurants where the food ranges from simple local 'hawker' fare to international standard cuisine. I haven't found a brit bar nor sports bar yet - thank God! so you should not be concerned about lager louts or football shirted loudmouths - Langkawi is a quiet, laid back and relaxed place to be. If you are without children the Beach Garden is recommended, or if with kids opt for one of the larger resorts with pools, activities, kids clubs etc such as Pelangi Beach. Check out the hotels on http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g298283-Langkawi_Kedah-Hotels.html
All the best
