Was rather hoping that someone might start a dialogue , and help us get an idea of living on langkawi , as we are heading over again at the end of august , with a view to buying , and possibly a business .
So if anyone would like to make us feel welcome , we would appreciate your input , thx

I was hopping that the expatriates would give some comments or share their experiences but looks like they are keeping the good things to themselves :-\

the rockingbones... fyi, there are lots of possibilities but the only reason that I see for your not getting any feedbacks is because you were being too general with your inquiries.
furthermore, there are so many "terms and conditions" attached to buying properties and starting legitimate businesses in Malaysia that it would take a novel the size of Tolstoy's "War and Peace" to even begin to know the process... mind you, I'm not even talking about "understanding" them here!
but, seriously, it's not that difficult a process once one understands them.
since you have till August... maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea if you were to start your "education" by asking simple but specific questions pertaining to your general plans... so, are you game?
and, Vennie... the main reason why the so-called "expatriates" haven't commented is because the "expatriates" in Langkawi aren't what one would normally consider "expatriates" ... most of them are just "global adventurers"... for the lack of a better term. although, I must state here that there are a few real expatriates up and about in Langkawi... but, they are indeed a rare breed over here.

Langkawipur hasn,t done badly with the reply! How much do you think you will need to live on per month? Do you have sufficient capital to buy a house and start a business or would you be better off renting for say 1000RM per month until you have a business established. Do you have the necessary work permits/visas ? What sort of business do you have in mind? Suggest you rent for the first year, frequent the expat hangouts and make sure you have carried out good research before you go into business otherwise you could go broke rather quickly. Anything you do must be pitched at the tourists ... or open a tileshop/kitchen showroom and that will save me going to the mainland! regards Bob T
