I am planning to take my family (5 adults and 1 child) to visit Langkawi in June. Looking for a good value beach side accommodation. While looking around the web, I stumble upon this forum.
Well to cut the long story short, I thought I will ask the local for some advise, will really appreciate any nuggets of knowledge anyone in this forum can share. Thank you all in advance.

there are many places to recommend... it all depends on your budget and expectations... however, the ONLY place I'd personally recommend in the lower-end category is Tropical Resort... it's nice and clean and quiet and, most importantly, CHEAP! (less than RM100 per day)... although it's NOT directly on the beach but it's very close... about 100 metres... actually you can see the beach from the chalets... so, give it a try... you WON'T be sorry.
however, please note than June isn't the most appropriate time to visit Langkawi... the optimal period is between October-May.

Hi..
Can u recommend any chalets/motels/budget hotels that are suitable for family vacation..preferably by the beach side & clean & comfortable as well?
i looked in many websites but when i read reviews on some of the hotels they didn't get nice & good remarks as their pictures :-\. The hotels are in particular aseania..langkasuka..even awana..
i'm thinking of booking helang hotel..do you recommend that? help me please..thank u!

I'd only recommend the Helang hotel if you were a businessman who must get to the airport in a hurry... it is right next to the Langkawi International Airport... if you don't already know this.
the Awana has no beach to speak of... the Aseania is about 200 metres from the beach... but, from the 3 hotels that you mentioned, you'd be better off at the Lanai... hah, got you there, didn't I?
it's advantage over the other 3 is it's location... it's real right beach-fronting, pool and all that what one would normally expect from a 2/3-star-category establishment and the price is below RM200 per room night... as for the condition of the rooms? ...well, they are all in the same "level"... in other words, it's Russian Roulette, if you get one of the better rooms then you'd get a vacation to remember... if not, you'd be busy to and fro-ing the front-desk to get another room.
anyhow, my recommendation is still with my previous posting.
so, choose wisely.

Hi Langkawipur
I also plan to have family trip to Langkawi (2 adults & 1 child). Based on our earlier reply that you are unfavor of Awana. Any reasons
I plans to stay at Awana because receive voucher from them for a package.
Do you know what is the ferry charges from Kuala kedah - Langkawi, and travel time?
Since Langkawi does not have public transport, where to get best price for car rental?
Why you only recommend traveling from Oct-Dec
Sorry, making so many questions
Thanks :)

to hynn1999...
the only reason I didn't recommend Awana is because the person who asked was looking for a beach... and there's no beach there... other than this, it should be OK.
the ferry from Kuala Kedah should cost you around RM18 per/adult one-way... maybe they might have increased the fare by a few Ringgit, I'm not too sure.
it's a good idea to rent a car because Awana is quite a distance from everything else around Pantai Tengah... and don't you worry about renting cars if you arrive via ferry... a lot of strangers will greet you with "car rental?" instead of "Selamat Datang ke Langkawi."
as for price... well, it depends on the season... if it's the school holidays then it's non-negotiable and if it's LIMA then you pay premium prices... but, normally it should be around RM80 per day... just haggle your way through and if you are not satisfied with the price, then just rent it for a day and as you drive to Awana just keep an eye out for signboards saying "Cars for Rent" or something similar... then you can start comparing prices.
lastly, the time period that I recommended is Oct-April and not Oct-Dec... the reason behind this is because the weather stays mostly sunny with very little rain for this period.
so, Selamat Datang ke Langkawi!

Can someone kindly advise on the car rental rates?
I've heard that it goes to as low as RM$40 for a small car.... and also during off peak.
What are prices like for say a 1.6ltr Jap or Malaysia made car during the run upto Christmas?
Thanks for your advse/feedback

high season rate also can runding 1... dont get the car from the runner... go direct to the bosses and get discount/cheaper, rather than pay for the commission (RM12 -RM20 per vehicle) to the runner (near jetty).
